At Moorlands Nursery School we believe that learning is a personal journey that takes part in a supportive community to foster development and achievement. We value our children as individuals and provide a responsive curriculum tailored to meet their needs and interests. We understand that to offer our children a personalised learning journey, different levels of support and methodology adapted to individual need will promote success - and success may look different for one child as it does for another. Therefore, we do not subscribe to a 'one size fits all' approach, but rather a 'how can we support this child's development today so they can make another step towards their future.'

Moorlands Nursery School has an exceptional track record of supporting children with SEND. We work closely with parents and external agencies to develop the best strategies to foster successful development based on individual need. Alongside a vast range of interventions our highly trained and experienced staff deliver, we offer a bespoke SEND curriculum offer that focuses on small but measurable steps of achievement.

Resources

We are committed to investing in inclusive teaching and learning at Moorlands Nursery School so all children reach their potential.

Our nursery provisions have developed to include specialist resources, dark and light dens, a communication cabin and a sensory nature garden to promote holistic learning and positive mental health in Early Years education.

Interventions

We offer an extensive range of high-quality interventions to support the development of children who have an identified need in the four areas of SEND which are:

Staffing

As a school, we provide a higher rate of qualified staff than nursery settings without school status. Our nursery has a headteacher, a full-time qualified teacher, 2 highly experienced qualified nursery nurses, alongside experienced educational support staff. There is a full-time Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) available at Moorlands Nursery School.

We believe that a positive and collaborative relationship between school and home is in the best interest of all children. As a result, our staff actively foster a good relationship with parents and strongly encourage you to work with us to support your child. Good relationships are built on mutual respect, honesty and open communication. We work with you to put your child's needs first.

School Governors

As a Local Authority maintained nursery school, we have a Board of Governors responsible for legal compliance, statutory regulation and the quality of education in our nursery.

We have a serving governor with the specific responsibility of overseeing the quality of education for children with Special Educational Needs.
